Explore the Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway Routes
The Chesapeake Country All-American Road (Byway) is a designated byway with the Federal Highway Administration’s National Scenic Byways Program. Originally classified as nationally significant in June 20021 after years of planning,study, and public discussion, the designation was extended south to the Lower Shore and elevated to All-American Roadstatus in February 2021.
This nationally significant route stretches 419 land miles from Chesapeake City to Crisfield (plus 12 nautical miles to Smith Island) and delivers an epic journey on scenic roads and historic travel routes through the extraordinary landscapes and waterways of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It consists of a main Byway route, along with Byway branches and sidetracks.
Included in the Byway are sections of the following counties and associated towns and villages:
- Cecil County—Chesapeake City, Cecilton, Cayots Corner, Fredericktown, Earleville
- Kent County—Georgetown, Galena, Rock Hall, Kennedyville, Chestertown, Betterton, Turner’s Creek, Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge
- Queen Anne’s County—Stevensville, Chester, Kent Narrows, Grasonville, Queenstown, Kingstown, Church Hill, Centreville, Wye Island
- Talbot County—Wye Mills, Easton, St. Michaels, Bellevue, Royal Oak, Tilghman Island, Oxford, Trappe
- Caroline County—Denton, Federalsburg
- Dorchester County—Cambridge, Secretary, East New Market, Hurlock, Vienna, Hoopersville, Fishing Creek, Church Creek, Hooper’s Island, Hudson, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, Elliott
- Wicomico County—Salisbury, Whitehaven, Nanticoke, Hebron, Mardela Springs, Quantico, Bivalve, Sharptown
- Worcester County—Pocomoke City, Snow Hill
